Real Housewives of Salt Lake City

As you probably learned from the George Clooney/ Mark Wahlberg 2000 cinematic masterpiece, The Perfect Storm, the film’s title refers to the culmination of what happens when “a rare combination of circumstances combine to aggravate a situation drastically” (thanks for the pretty wording, Wikipedia). That happened in the the US Northeast on Halloween 1991, and it’s likely going to happen again this year on TLC on Sunday, September 26. Mark your calendars – you were warned here.

Yes, that is the day that TLC launches its new series, Sister Wives. As other reality shows have learned, when you take a popular scripted TV show and turn it into a reality show (Desperates Housewives? Real Housewives! The OC? Laguna Beach!), you only end up with a more popular version of the original. TLC, which has cultivated past hits like Trading Spaces and Jon & Kate Plus 8 is setting out to do more of the same with Sister Wives - the real life version of Big Love. So, what happens when you combine a cult hit on HBO, a reality-hitmaker like TLC, crazy media-hating Mormons, and an American obsession with polygamy? The Perfect Storm. Watch the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.
